Host a scholar
On this page, you will find information about hosting an at-risk scholar. On our Swedish page there is more specific information for Swedish universities that wish to host.
Who can apply for protection?
All scholars hosted through SAR must first apply for protection via SAR’s website: Scholars at Risk.
SAR then assesses the application, with the aim of determining how the network can best support the at-risk scholar. Some applicants are offered advice and guidance, while others are matched with a host institution for a temporary placement as a SAR scholar.
There are many reasons a scholar may be considered at risk.
It may relate to critical or controversial research, or to threats based on gender, sexuality, or ethnic background.
Scholars in countries affected by war or conflict may also face particularly high levels of risk.
How to Host handbook
The How to Host Handbook is primarily for member institution representatives, administrators, faculty, and others at higher education institutions as they explore their interest in, plan for, and host SAR scholars and other intellectuals as visiting scholars on their campuses.
